Herb Gardening
Growing your own herbs for the household cuisine can be a lot of fun, and it can really save you time and money, if you are successful and your herbs grow as they should. Herb gardening has the advantage that it can be done in small spaces, you can even organize a small garden on your balcony, in several pots. What you need to be careful of is to respect the optimal growth conditions for each of the herbs you think to garden.
For example, if you want to cultivate sweet basil, you need to know that the seeds germinate in 7 - 10 days, that the plants will grow as high as 18 inches, and that you need to secure a 12 inch space between the plants, in order to prevent them from suffocation.
In case you wish to grow sesame, you should be aware that these plants grow well only at high temperatures (above 70 F), so you cannot plant them outside in colder areas, or in seasons other than summer. Sesame seeds are great to be added on cookies and even on deep fried meat. Chinese use a lot of sesame seeds in their cuisine.
